Many homeowners have been told that investing in an Air Source Heat Pump system will present them with a high ROI (Return on Investment) through the Government’s free “cash” incentive; Renewable Heat Incentive Tariff (RHI).
Air Source Heat Pumps were invented to take heat from the air outside, increase its temperature and use it inside the home. The problem was that Air Source Heat Pumps were less effective when the temperature was cold outside. This meant that customers needed another form of heating in the Winter. This meant that their expensive Air Source Heat Pump system was no longer as cost effective as advertised. In addition, people found that if their home heats up and cools down quickly then the ASHP is somewhat ineffective.
Furthermore the RHI scheme is being considered for complete closure. RHI inspectors say they have suspended payments at more than half the boilers they have audited.
