The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has conducted a 27 month investigation
Manchester based Solar Energy Savings Limited was under investigation. The SFO believed that the firm was mis-selling solar panels. The fraudulent mis-selling of roof-top solar installation had five people connected to it, totalling in £13million.
In addition, there were two companies which were used to generate the sales for Solar Energy Savings Limited; PV Solar Direct and Ultra Energy Global.
Companies that were under investigation were selling customers (with the majority of the customers being older and more vulnerable) Solar panels with a ‘360 Returns scheme’. 360 Returns scheme promised customers the return of sums spent to purchase installations on maturity.
Solar Energy Savings Limited was using “high pressure tactics” and illegal sales practices, the High Court ordered them to close down in 2012.
In April 2017, five individuals linked to the investigation were charged and two other men are being sought by the FCO after failing to attend police stations in early 2017.
